What is SAP? SAP is an ERP Software used by large companies to integrate their various business processes. SAP is ready-to-use software and needs some basic configuration / customization to suit the company's needs. SAP's three main systems are Enterprise Central Component (ECC formerly called R/3), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and BI (Business Intelligence Warehouse). However, there are about 15 other SAP systems like APO, XI, etc., for specific needs and are not widely implemented.
SAP stands for "Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte" in German and "Systems Applications and Products in Business Process" in English." The original SAP idea was to provide customers with the ability to interact with a common corporate database for a comprehensive range of applications. Gradually, the applications have been assembled and today many corporations, including IBM and Microsoft, are using SAP products to run their own businesses. Most Fortune 500 Companies use SAP. Although, implementations were completed and in progress, Companies constantly look for SAP consultants for upgrades, adding new solutions, support, etc. There is a great demand for SAP consultants today. | Is IT background necessary to get into SAP? No. IT background is not necessary to learn SAP Functional modules like FICO, MM, SD, PP, CRM, etc. If you have basic computer skills like Windows, MS Office, Email/Internet, etc., you will be able to learn SAP. Most of the time, as a functional consultant, you will be making a few changes in SAP Tables, which is known a configuration. You will not do any programming. However, those with heavy IT skills usually learn technical modules like BASIS, ABAP, XI, Portals, BI Technical, etc. | Functional Vs. Technical mentoring Functional modules like Sales & Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Financial Accounting and Controlling (FICO) need some functional and business process knowledge relevant to that area. For example a Mechanical Engineer will be able to learn MM easily as he will be familiar with key terms, processes, etc., used in that module. Similarly, someone with advertising, marketing, management or sales or customer service experience will be a good fit for CRM.
Technical Modules need good IT background. Those with Computer Science degree or System Admin experience will be able to learn BASIS easily. Programming and Coding knowledge helps you get into ABAP, NetWeaver Portal, etc. Similarly, those with Database Admin or Data Warehousing experience should prefer to go for BI (BW) | Our mentoring-Mentoring-Placement Methodology Mere mentoring is not enough to find a project in SAP.
